I have a car and a bank account. Do I qualify for CalWORKs?
Probably yes. Families must have under $10,000 in total assets or resources. The resource limit increases to $10,888 in 2023. The limit will be $16,333 for families with at least one person who has a disability or is 60 years old or more.
A family’s car does not count as a resource if it is worth less than $25,000. There are special rules about cars and some assets that allow the welfare office to exempt those assets, or not count them against you. You should apply to find out if you are eligible.
