I have a car and a bank account. Do I qualify for CalWORKs?
Probably yes. Families must have under $10,000 in total assets or resources plus a cost-of-living increase. The resource limit increases to $11,684 in 2024. The limit will be $17,452 for families with at least one person who has a disability or is 60 years old or more.
The first $32,045 of the equity value (that is the value minus what you owe) of a family's car does not count toward the resource limit.
There are also some assets that the welfare office does not count against you. You should apply to find out if you are eligible.
