What is special education?
Special education is the educational system for children with disabilities. This education is free, and may be taught in a general education classroom, or a separate classroom, for all or part of the day. California law defines special education as the specially designed instruction, at no cost to the parent, to meet the unique needs of children with disabilities. The instruction may also be provided in the home, in hospitals and institutions, and other settings. It also includes instruction in physical education.
