What is Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)?

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is an entitlement program for people who worked long enough (usually 10 years) to be covered by Social Security.  You must also have a medical condition that meets Social Security's definition of disability.  Social Security will pay you based on how much you earned over the years.
