General Assistance is for people with no other means of support. It is only for county residents. Each county has its own rules for its GA program.
If you have a disability, you have the right to be treated equally and use welfare programs and services like people without disabilities.
Adults in CalWORKs must do “work activities” to get cash aid. This is called “Welfare-to-Work” (WTW).
If you do not speak English well, you have the right to get help from the county in your primary language.
California law limits cash aid to 48 months of CalWORKs for adults. The state will count all months of aid that you got as an adult, since January 1, 1998.
