Mapping education data

June 10, 2007 (posted by Webdog)

For those working on education issues in their local communities, here’s an interesting mapping alternative: EdWeek Map Viewer, an interactive mapping site enabling you to exam and compare education statistics of one school district (e.g., graduation rates) with other districts, the state, other states and the nation as a whole; includes access to student demographics (race, ethnicity), percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch; percentage of students in special education; student-teacher ratios; percentage of students who are English language learners; segregation levels based on ethnicity and socio-economic status, and more. We’ve added a link to EdWeek Map to the GIS Mapping Resources page, listing it under the other (not intended to be exhaustive) “examples” of National GIS Maps and Data Sets. It’s all there just to pique your GIS interest. Go for it, people!
